Insight

After failing to make it out of the Super 12 stage at last year’s Twenty20 World Cup, India soared to the 2022 title in the best possible way by beating rivals Pakistan in an incredible match at the MCG .

It was a crucial victory against the side considered to be India’s closest rivals for top spot in Group 2 and Rohit Sharma’s side have every chance of following up with a victory over the Netherlands in Sidney.

The Dutch lost their Super 12 opener by nine points to Bangladesh and could struggle to tame India’s better order.

Virat Kohli produced a clean sheet run for the ages against Pakistan, compiling an unbeaten 82 from 53 to keep India in the chase when they looked down and out, and he could also be instrumental in the CGS.

Kohli hit six fours and four sixes in that memorable shot and he also cleared the ropes in his side’s win over Australia earlier this month. At 8-13, the Indian superstar represents excellent value to hit at least maximum against a fairly timid Dutch attack.

Quinton de Kock, who featured in South Africa’s Super 12 opener against Zimbabwe, is another world-class batsman already on pace at the T20 World Cup.

In a rainy encounter, South Africa had set a target of 64 from seven overs and got off to a good start in the chase as De Kock hit 47 from just 18 deliveries, only for the umpires call off the match three overs in the Proteas innings.

South Africa will have been extremely frustrated to have lost any chance of victory, but De Kock’s performance should inspire confidence ahead of their next game against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh beat the Netherlands to 135 points in their Super 12 opener, but their attack could have a much tougher time against a quality South African batting unit.

But bettors shouldn’t ignore the obvious and De Kock is looking a decent bet at 8-11 to register at least three limits.

He hit eight fours against Zimbabwe in that blistering blow, having netted nine in the three matches against India recently.

Scoring 69, 68 and 47 in his last three T20 internationals, he is a fit man and leads South Africa’s top scorer market at 16-5.
