The Evian Championship has been an LPGA Major since 2013, held in the beautiful spa town of Evian-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Geneva, and it was the tournament that made Minjee Lee a superstar.

Lee, much like his mild-mannered brother Min Woo, went through the early years of his professional career without coming into serious conflict for the biggest events on the calendar. Suddenly, however, the Perth-born starlet shot a Sunday 64 at Evian last year to propel herself into the playoffs.

A birdie on the extra first hole meant Evian glory for Lee and she hasn’t looked back since. A seventh LPGA victory came in May and then she won the US Open last month in style, claiming a four-stroke triumph.

Lee walks with newfound confidence at the age of 26 and she followed her success at the US Open with second place in the Women’s PGA Championship. She’s the hottest golfer on the planet and a brave bettor betting against her vigorously defending her Evian title over the next four days.

Nelly Korda is still trying to find the best speed after injury struggles, while Jin-Young Ko has dropped to 30th in the Women’s PGA and appears to have lost some of the aura that made her such a player. dreaded on the circuit for so long.

Leona Maguire, who closed with a 61 for sixth place at Evian last year, was a tempting 45-1 chance for this one. The Irish lady, however, lost her clubs in transit to France. She found her clubs in time for the tournament, but the hampered preparation means it’s probably wise to stick to a one-sided investment on Lee.
