Match Preview

The England women managed to pull off a fine breakaway to reach the Cricket World Cup semi-finals, winning four in a row after losing their first three games to set up this clash with South Africa.

The two met in the group stage with Proteas leading by three wickets in a close encounter.

Marizanne Kapp was key that day, taking five wickets for 45 runs before a 32 shot that helped South Africa chase 235.

England will also have to watch out for flyhalf Laura Wolvaardt, who has the most points in the tournament so far, 433 at an average of 61.85.

These two teams are familiar opponents, meeting in the semi-final of the last World Cup, where England won by two wickets with two balls to spare before lifting the trophy in the final.

It looks like another close affair, but given disappointing efforts by England openers, South Africa looks set to register the biggest opener partnership.

England’s average opening partnership over their seven games is 12.86, while Proteas’ is at 27.71.

As England have done throughout the tournament so far, they could leave it late to claim victory and advance to the final in the early hours of Sunday morning.
