Peugeot Sport teams up with Capgemini to accelerate its 9×8 hybrid hypercar!
Peugeot Sport signs a multi-year partnership with the world leader in digital transformation Capgemini to equip the FIA Peugeot 9X8 World Endurance Championship program with state-of-the-art digital tools. Peugeot Sport is set to make a return to high-flying endurance racing this summer and will draw on Capgemini’s expertise in data and AI applications to advance the performance of its revolutionary hybrid Hypercar, both in the simulator and on the circuit. This new partnership also materializes the commitment of the two companies to the energy transition.
Pooling the capability of digital tools from Peugeot Sport and Capgemini will enable the team’s engineers, drivers and mechanics to deepen their understanding of the 9X8, while accelerating and enhancing its competitive potential, as software development becomes a key factor given that the material specification of the car will be frozen for a period of four years in accordance with FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar regulations.
While Peugeot Sport is at a crucial stage in the development of the car, this fundamental technological support is the sign of the evolution of motorsport. For example, the capacity for specific calculations, algorithms and artificial intelligence provided by Capgemini will complement the software developed within the sports and automotive industry to offer increasingly precise energy management. during acceleration and during the regeneration phase (capped by regulations at 200kW), two essential parameters linked to performance and reliability. The improvements introduced by Peugeot Sport and Capgemini to boost the performance of the new Hypercar in the FIA World Endurance Championship will continue to benefit Peugeot road cars.
The disruptive vision inherent in artificial intelligence is perfectly in line with the spirit that guided the design of the Peugeot 9X8. The ability to analyze car behavior in real time opens up a whole new world of opportunities for the team, not only complementing the rapidly evolving technologies that already exist in motorsport, but also contributing to the quest ever-increasing performance. and allowing a much wider range of racing scenarios to be considered.
“We are delighted to have partnered with digital leader and data and artificial intelligence specialist, Capgemini, to develop and operate the Peugeot 9X8,” said Jean-Marc Finot, Director of Peugeot Sport. “Each meter covered by our hybrid Hypercar on the circuit or on a simulator will be recorded, sorted and analyzed using Capgemini’s ultra-sophisticated tools in addition to the data collected by the team itself. Peugeot’s association with Capgemini is an example of French technological excellence shining on the world stage and is indicative of how the Group is evolving towards a technology company.
“It’s great to work alongside Peugeot Sport, which is seeking to make the Peugeot 9X8 hybrid hypercar an icon of its time”, comments Jérôme Siméon, Managing Director of the Southern Europe Strategic Business Unit of Capgemini and member of the Management Board. . “We look forward to making our advanced expertise in data analysis and artificial intelligence available to Peugeot Sport experts. Together, we will advance the performance of her Hypercar so she can have an immediate impact on her racing debut. Our partnership has a strong technological dimension and strengthens Capgemini’s long-standing relationship with the Stellantis Group, bringing to life our shared values and ambitions to shape the future of mobility through innovative and sustainable solutions.
Entirely designed by Peugeot Sport in collaboration with Peugeot’s Style and Design Department, the 9X8 features a radically new and efficient aerodynamic concept, runs on 100% renewable fuel and is equipped with new generation batteries, in accordance with the Brand’s commitment to innovation, increasingly sustainable mobility. The extreme conditions encountered in motorsport in general, and in endurance racing in particular, constitute an invaluable laboratory which allows the Brand to assess relevant solutions to the strategic challenges it has set itself. Since the start of the 9X8 track test program in December, Peugeot has focused on accelerating the development of the car – including its powertrain and electrified all-wheel drive – to enable everyday drivers to benefit from its research work and its progress, with the 9X8 imposing itself as a standard-bearer of Peugeot’s values, namely Allure, Emotion and Excellence.
The partnership also fits perfectly with Capgemini’s global sports sponsorship strategy which not only seeks to celebrate the notions of team spirit and daring through its associations with major brands and sporting events around the world (including the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups and the Ryder Cup of golf) but also to bring its advanced tools and technological expertise with a view to improving performance and the fan experience.
