South Africa have never won the Twenty20 World Cup but are seen as dark horses for this year’s tournament in Australia and are set to start their Super 12 campaign with victory over minnows Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe topped Group B in the first round of the World Cup ahead of Ireland, Scotland and West Indies, but they could be overtaken by Proteas.

There is a good feeling around this South African group, which feature a superbly paced attack suited to Australian conditions and some of the most exciting batsmen in T20 cricket in Rilee Rossouw, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs.

They’ve also had pretty good preparation for the tournament, beating England in the UK in the summer and pushing India from close range in a 2-1 series loss earlier this month.

And one of their most consistent performers in those games who shouldn’t be overlooked in this tournament is Aiden Markram, who is fourth in the ICC T20 World Batting Rankings.

In his last seven T20 international innings, Markram has hit 52 not out, 51 not out, 56, 27, 25, 33 and 16 not out and he averaged 54 at last year’s World Cup .

He is looking at a value bet for his team’s best score.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh went 1-4 to win their Super 12 opener against the Netherlands, who won 3-1 after edging second-placed Namibia and the United Arab Emirates. group A in the first round.
