Council Member Fletcher Recognizes Accomplishments of Youth Sports Teams
South Dade Blue Jays teams took to the stage to receive certificates of recognition presented by Homestead Council Member Sean Fletcher during the February Special Council presentation.
The 12U, 13U and 9U teams were recognized for their achievements at the Greater Orlando Baseball Presidents Day Tournament. Both 13U and 9U faced stiff competition and placed second in their division while the 12U team managed to fight their way to the championship.
Board member Fletcher took the time to thank the teams, coaches and especially the parents for their dedication.
“There is a lot of time dedicated to these activities and we not only want to thank the players and the coaches but also the parents who travel with these teams and provide them with what they need on a daily basis.
He also stressed the importance of teamwork.
“As you learn teamwork, the leadership skills are there. You have team captains you look up to, and each of you wants to strive to be in one of those places. One day you too can be one of those people.
Each coach and each team captain was then called upon to receive their certificate of recognition.
The South Dade Blue Jays are a local Homestead travel baseball team dedicated to promoting the sport of baseball and helping local youth not only learn the basics of the sport, but also excel in their positions. They have four travel teams of ages 8-13 that compete across the country and represent the town of Homestead. They highlight the importance of sports for youth in the community and how they develop healthy habits, build self-esteem and develop future leaders.
