Match Preview
Wigan Warriors and Hull FC have been involved in famous clashes over the years and their final dust in the Betfred Super League on Thursday could be another cracker.
Wigan’s 1985 Challenge Cup final victory is still considered one of Wembley’s greatest finals, with the Warriors claiming 28-24 wins in a topsy-turvy contest, and recent encounters have been just as close.
It was 10-0 against Wigan at the end of last season when the latter two met and the average winning margin over the last 16 meetings is just nine points.
Both have made decent starts to the campaign with Wigan winning five of their opening six league matches and Hull winning four times, while both made comfortable progress in the Betfred Challenge Cup last week.
Wigan are 4-11 to maintain their pursuit of league leaders St Helens and an away win is 12-5 but Hull have enjoyed little success at DW Stadium.
The Black and Whites have won just two of their last seven visits but have rarely been blown away and backing the visitors to be edged seems the best bet.
Only five of the previous 11 encounters have featured more than 30 points and another close encounter is expected despite the return of Wigan full-back Bevan French after a lengthy layoff with a hamstring injury.
French is 9-1 to score the first try but may take time to get going. Liam Farrell, however, is well versed after scoring five tries in six games for the Warriors from the back row, including a brace last time out.
At 16-1, he looks too tempting to continue his impressive trying streak.
