South Florence Girls Reach Lower State Finals | Sports News
FLORENCE, SC — Wednesday featured a third-round playoff game that was a low-scoring, physical defensive struggle at times. Exactly as the south of Florence likes it.
South Florence Girls Reach Lower State Finals | Sports News “It’s our kind of game,” Bruins girls’ coach David Robinson said after a 41-34 win over Aiken. “We love to play hard – hard and fast, so they played into our hands to get into that type of game.”
South Florence (20-2) will face North Augusta on March 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the Florence Center for the right to play in the state championship. This game will take place at USC Aiken on March 5 at 6 p.m. That being said, there were no big runs by either team outside of the one the Bruins closed out the half with. Aiken took an early 4-0 lead, but South found their footing and led 11-10 after the first stanza.
“It’s crazy because I’ve been with (this team) forever and to do it this year is a really good feeling,” senior guard Zaniyah Snow said of his move to the lower state. “…We had to toughen up our defense to beat this team because they play a bit like us – fast paced.” A late first-half run and another small fourth-quarter scoring boost gave the Bruins all the cushion they needed against the Green Hornets as they secured their first berth in the lower state championship since the 1994-95 season.
