Sky Sport News returns to pay TV in Germany

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland is converting Sky Sport News into a pay-TV channel at the end of July 2021.

The 24-hour sports news channel will then only be accessible to subscribers to the Entertainment Sky Ticket streaming service package or customers.

Sky Sport News launched as a pay-TV channel on 1 December 2011 and switched to free-to-air TV in December 2016 after five years. The return to pay TV comes at the start of the new Bundesliga football season and the opening of the Tokyo Olympics.

“Thanks to the showcase on free TV, all sports fans in Germany have been able to take a look into the world of Sky Sport over the past few years and see for themselves the quality of our sports offer. With the return to the Sky subscription, our customers can expect even more exclusive news, background information and, most importantly, live windows on current Sky broadcasts, in addition to new exclusivity,” said Charly Classen, Executive Vice President Sport at Ciel Germany.

[UPDATE July 20, 2021] The return of Sky Sport News to the pay-TV offer will take place on July 21, 2021. The channel will be available to all Sky Deutschland subscribers via the basic package Sky Entertainment and the Sky Ticket streaming service.
