Norway won’t travel to Qatar for the World Cup this winter, but they have at least given fans something to shout about in the Nations League.

After four games, the Norwegians top Nations League Group B4, winning three of those games and drawing with Slovenia in June.

Slovenia dug deep with a back-to-the-wall performance in that scoreless stalemate in Oslo, but they may not be so lucky when the teams meet in Ljubljana.

Slovenia were lucky in the reverse fixture and picked up two draws and two losses in a miserable campaign, while Norway could be on the verge of promotion to League A and have plenty of incentive to enter the match.

Since the last international break, Norway’s main man Erling Haaland has gone from strength to strength, making an electrifying start to life in the Premier League with Manchester City.

Haaland has already scored 11 goals in seven Premier League appearances this season and can intimidate the Slovenian defence, while midfield maestro Martin Odegaard has been central to Arsenal’s strong start to the season and is expected to feature after his to recover from a calf problem.

Norway are far superior in attack and can claim a win.

Pressure is mounting on Portugal head coach Fernando Santos, who has been criticized for not making the most of a golden generation of players, but there can’t be too many complaints about the team’s campaign in the League of Nations.

In Group A2, Portugal held Spain in check before winning comfortably against Switzerland and the Czech Republic in their first three matches.

In June they slipped to a 1-0 loss to Switzerland, but that came at a time when most big nations underperformed and fatigue played a part as clubs’ campaigns came to an end.

With the World Cup on the horizon, however, the Portuguese cannot afford another setback and their superior quality in midfield and attack, which includes in-form Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Rafael Leao, should give them the lead against the Czech Republic on Saturday.

The Czechs will not take part in this year’s World Cup and have taken just one point from their last three Nations League games, going clean in each of their last two games.
