Match preview

A must-have game in the battle to avert the Championship drop sees Peterborough host Reading where Royals hotshot Lucas Joao could prove the difference between the relegation rivals.

Reading are two points clear of third-placed Posh having played one more game, but there is a significant gap to 20th place which shows both are in serious danger of falling.

Peterborough have picked up just one point from their last seven league games and are goalless in three, while the visitors are winless in ten and on a seven-game losing streak.

Opting for a winner between two confidence-starved sides is risky, but Reading have a proven goalscorer in Joao who is capable of leading them away from danger.

The Portuguese striker’s season has been decimated by injuries which have limited him to just six starts this term.

However, Joao scored in two of those appearances, opening the scoring against Huddersfield in January and repeating the trick against Coventry on Saturday.

The 28-year-old finished fifth in the Championship goalscoring charts last season, netting 19 goals in 39 appearances, and should make up for lost time if he avoids injuries.
