Match preview

West Brom have won one of their last 11 games in all competitions, losing seven, and their terrible run is unlikely to end against a Middlesbrough side who have been strong at home.

Since Chris Wilder’s appointment in November, Boro have won six of their eight games at the Riverside, including wins over Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Coventry.

The Teesiders dominated their weekend game against Bristol City, winning on shots 21-5, but were beaten 2-1. As a result, Wilder’s men are now one point out of the playoffs, with Huddersfield and Sheffield United picking up wins.

With every game crucial to the tight race for the top six, Boro will be desperate to pick up three points against a poorly traveling Baggies side.

Only Bristol City, Reading and the bottom two have lost more away games than West Brom and Steve Bruce’s men were beaten again on the road by Luton on Saturday.

The Baggies have also failed to score in their last five games and have shown their relegation form since Christmas. Bruce’s arrival doesn’t seem to have solved any of their problems and things may get worse before they get better.

Boro’s side appear to be suited to Wilder’s style of play and the likes of Isaiah Jones and Marcus Tavernier have impressed in recent weeks.

They lack a proven goalscorer, which is reflected in them being the worst goalscorers in the top ten, but they should have enough to overtake Bruce’s Baggies.
